Willie Hunter

During the 1950s Motherwell produced a number of exciting young players who became known as the "Ancell Babes" after Bobby Ancell, Motherwell's manager of the period. Alongside the likes of Ian St John and Andy Paton was Willie Hunter, unquestionably one of the most graceful and skilful players ever to have played for the club.

Signed in 1957 from Edinburgh Norton he made over 300 appearances for the club and scored 64 goals. Willie's brilliant performances at Fir Park did not go unnoticed and he won three caps for Scotland.

James McFadden

One of the most exciting young players to emerge from Fir Park in recent years has been James McFadden. He made his debut for the club in December 2000 and made 69 first team appearances scoring 32 goals. McFadden's dribbling runs at goal made him a stand out amongst a young crop of promising players at Motherwell.

A number of clubs inevitably took an interest in him and in August 2003 Everton won the transfer chase paying a fee of £1.25 million for his signature. McFadden has gone on to become an important player for both Everton and Scotland.
